Message from the Program Director
Miriam Kulkarni, MD, FACEP | Program Director, Emergency Medicine
“I am proud to be a part of one of the newest and most dynamic training programs in Emergency Medicine. Our mission is to provide a high-quality, comprehensive and dynamic education for our trainees. We anticipate that residents who graduate from this program will not only be well trained, but will have a true understanding of the different ED settings and will be able to make an informed decision about what type of EM practice that best suits them.”
Residents training in our program will rotate through 4 unique Emergency Departments:
Andrus Pavilion, the main campus which is located in Yonkers, is a community hospital that has approximately 46,000 annual ED visits
Dobbs Ferry Pavilion, a community hospital that has approximately 8,000 annual ED visits
Jacobi Medical Center, a tertiary care, ACS Level I trauma center located in the Bronx with over 100,000 annual visits
Elmhurst Medical Center, a major Level I Trauma center in Queens, NY with over 130,000 annual visits
We know that growing one’s knowledge base outside of the ED is just as important as the clinical experience; we also realize that everyone learns differently. Our didactic curriculum combines lectures, small group discussions, flipped classroom exercises, simulation, labs and workshops. This enables us to reach a wide variety of learners and to keep the curriculum dynamic and interactive.
Lastly, physician wellness and resilience is very important to our faculty and me. Because we incorporate physician wellness events, retreats, and team building exercises throughout the year, residents have time to establish connections with one another as well as the faculty, nurses, advanced practice providers and support staff. SJRH is situated in a prime location very close to NYC, but still in Westchester County, which is home to so many beautiful parks, lakes, and great activities.
Thank you for your interest in an EM residency position at SJRH—Westchester County’s FIRST and only EM residency!”
